I wrote this book in a season of solitude. For two years I stepped away from work, moved to the United States, and settled in New York to find myself again in a new country, in the early years of my forties. I had no job, I was far from my family, and I was still grieving the loss of my parents. As I grieved, more wounds opened, and I followed them into a journey of healing and forgiveness. This book began as a journal, a place to put down my deepest pain and release the trauma I had carried for so long. Over time, those pages became a book, and writing it became the way I came out with my truth.

S.J. Nanni is a health coach and medical coder based in New York. Raised in a polygamist Muslim family, S.J. learned early how to read a room, hold difficult emotions, and build community wherever life led. S.J. is now working to become a sounding board for people in the community who are carrying pain, and an advocate for women finding their voice.
