Lesson Plan: Dignity in Expression — the picture book

Read the opening

Here is a page. Someone wrote it carefully, one word after another, the way a child crosses a stream on stones. And beside every word, in red, a small mark has been made. Each mark says the same quiet thing. This is not right yet. Turn the page. It is not finished with you.

Most of us were handed this page long before we knew what the word correct meant. We learned the colour first. We learned the pause before the pen came down. Some of us never put the page away. We fold it small and carry it into meetings, into birthday cards, into text messages we type, delete, and type again, waiting for the red to arrive.

The sample pages on this site continue the opening — and the full book is available in print.
