Portal: Sector 7
Book: 1
by E. E. James
The test chambers are rearranging themselves, and GLaDOS has gone silent.
Six thousand, four hundred and eighty-two days after the last test subject vanished, Evan wakes inside Aperture Science's abandoned Sector 7, where the walls rearrange themselves and the only voice left is GLaDOS, cheerfully insisting he is here to be tested. Stranded in a facility that rebuilds itself around him, he must master the portal gun and her increasingly strange chambers before he can find a way back to the surface. Every wrong step is being recorded.

The elevator stopped. Evan waited. Nothing happened. The elevator wasn’t really on rails. It never had been. It moved through Aperture’s old transfer system—an enormous network of vertical glass transport tubes where air pressure shifts and sealed pneumatic bursts pushed the cabin between floors. It didn’t ride the system so much as get carried by it, like a freight capsule pretending it understood gravity. The walls around Evan were transparent glass. No screen. No display. Just a faint etched warning that had long since worn down: APERTURE SCIENCE TEST SUBJECT TRANSFER Outside, the shaft stretched endlessly in both directions.
