Barnaby Button-Toe and the Lonely Left-Behinds
by Andy Knights
Who finds the toys that everyone else forgot to take home?
Leo has nine socks and a mystery to solve, because someone in his bedroom has been stealing them one by one. Armed with a torch and a stinky sock for bait, he prepares to catch the thief, but the creature in the bottom drawer turns out to be nothing like the shadowy culprit he expected. Barnaby Button-Toe is a warm, woolly, patchwork surprise, and the lonely left-behind socks may have found the friend they never knew they needed.

Read the opening
Leo had ten toes, but just nine socks. He searched through his boots and his secret sock box. He peered in the dryer and under his bed, But found only dust… and a button of red.
His mum would sigh softly, “Just look, my dear.” But Leo felt sure there was something right here. For deep in the dark by his bottom-most drawer, He’d heard a faint snuffle… and maybe a snore. And sometimes at night, when the moon shone bright, A shadow would wiggle and slip out of sight.
